SYSTEM 5S

The meaning of the system “5S” is to change behaviour and spirit of a worker, to bring up respect to order and discipline. But worker’s self control will appear not earlier than he gets used to everyday fulfillment of elementary requirements, which are described by methodic in details. «5S» means initial letters of Japanese words Seiri – Seiton – Seiso – Seiketsu – Shitsuke.

• Seiri – sort.
• Seiton – order.
• Seiso – cleanness.
• Seiketsu – standardization.
• Shitsuke – responsibility.

The aim of the system “5S” consists in optimization of a working place in order to increase labour productivity:

• Sort – accurately to separate necessary items from unnecessary and to move the last away from the area. In the production section there should be those and only those items which are really necessary and only in those quantity which is necessary.
• Order – to store necessary items in the strictly defined places to provide easy and immediate access and return. Dead work that is such as transportation and movement, “looking for a necessary item”, etc. should be removed or losses of working hours should be minimized.
• Cleaning – to keep working areas clean and equipment in the state of operability. Exclude dirty on the equipment, on the floor and on the walls. Detect and remove the sources of pollution.
• Standardization – to support organization, to maintain order and cleanness on the systematic level. All aspects of production activity should be subject to standardization and control.

Self-discipline – to turn compliance of the established (standardized) procedures into a habit. Established (standardized) procedures should be executed steadily. All problems should be revealed immediately after their occurrence and solved directly in their sources.
